American Idol Winner Sticks to Wholesome Material for Debut Album
Jordin Sparks, who successfully sprang out of the last season of American Idol has recently released her self-titled debut album, which she promises won't sing about hand-touching body parts and the usual adult, sexual stuff we hear from most teen acts nowadays. The 17-year-old American Idol champion revealed that she made sure that the tracks on her album spoke of things that she is actually familiar and comfortable with. Admitting that she wasn't sure of what to sing about at first, she told the American Press she was sure that she did not want to sing songs gearing towards the more adult and sexy lifestyle.
"I haven't experienced that yet so the fact that I would sing it would be really dumb — plus I don't feel comfortable singing stuff like that," Sparks admitted.
The young artist had a lot of assistance from Jive A&R executive Jeff Fenster, who helped her pick the songs that would comprise her first record. He admitted that the executives, him included, and Sparks agreed to retain the teen wholesome image, as the album would definitely reflect the artist.
"She's one of the most beautiful people I've ever met on this planet... You immediately get a sense of who she is and her values," Fenster said. "I said to her from the beginning, a big part of my goal was to help her make a record that she was proud of and represented who she is, and I think she felt that way at the end of the day."
Sparks added that aside from being wholesome, she wanted the record to be appealing to people of all ages, not only the fan base that has helped her through the American Idol days.
"I never really thought of targeting a specific audience. I just want to make music and whoever likes it likes it," she said in a conversation with the Associated Press. “I'm kind of just making good music, so hopefully there's sort of a balance there to where adults will like it but it's not so adult that little kids won't be able to listen to it.”
Jordin Sparks will be promoting her debut album, which hits record bars on Tuesday, November 20. Fans have yet to see if she will surpass the fame of previous American Idols Carrie Underwood and Kelly Clarkson.
Right now, Sparks seems optimistic that she will grow into the industry, despite the daunting road ahead.
"That's the point of this career for me. I'm excited because of my age — I can grow," she said.
