"You can't never know how to do it before you never did it before." We do not expect musicians to perform a recital the first day they pick up an instrument or an athlete to play a perfect game without practice. Nor should we place that expectation on ourselves when making artwork. Success in Art is not reserved for a few individuals who seem to possess a natural talent. There are many skills in art which can be learned by those who have anmind and a willingness to try. The art lessons I teach at Ox Bow familiarize students with many basic skills and materials as well as encourage creative expression. These meaningful and educational art experiences do not result in a completed project during the 40 minutes that I see students each week. In art, as in other academic areas, progress takes time!
